Kaikon (Remorse) by Chet Williamson, Phantasmagoria Press, 2006. (Signed or inscribed to winning bidder)
Kaikon is one of the true rarities of horror and fantasy. Originally planned for an edition of 200 signed chapbooks, the book was to be housed in a handcrafted wooden box with sculpted resin elements. Unfortunately the resin proved to be chemically unstable, and the publisher abandoned the project. The chapbooks themselves had been printed, though not signed, and were never sold. A handful were distributed by the publisher, but these were marked as review copies. The publisher sent a number of unmarked copies to the author, and it is one of these copies that is being auctioned.
There are two stories in the chapbook, both set in Japan, with an afterword by the author concerning the stories’ inspiration. “The Pebbles of Sai-No-Kawara” was first published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, while “Blanket Man” is an original story new to this volume. The 6 ¾” x 4” volume, in wraps, is printed on Japanese papers. The author will inscribe the chapbook for the winning bidder, or merely sign it if desired.
Chet Williamson is an American writer who has received the International Horror Guild Award, and been shortlisted numerous times for the World Fantasy Award, the Horror Writers Association Bram Stoker Award, and the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award.
